Green Shoots

February 18, 2012

When looking for inspiration for a new collection I often turn to nature.  Living on the atlantic coast gives me ample opportunity to view nature daily. Also a moody ocean on my doorstep never lets me down when I need creative ideas.
Now, being mid February, I find we are really in that in-between time as winter lets go a little and spring starts to appear. It was bright at 7:30 this morning ! Snowdrops, daffodils and the odd green shoot here and there. I love this time of year, and it is great to get inspiration from these first signs of spring for my spring/summer creations. Greens and creams !  Just putting these colours together makes me really look forward to longer, warmer days…………
As spring progresses and more colours appear with the lengthening days, more and more colours seem to appear on my creative palette also.

Planning a Wedding ?

February 7, 2012

With all the preparation that is involved in your wedding day, you will be surprised at how quickly it will fly past. However – you will be able to take comfort in the fact that the memories of that day will remain with your forever. It is with that in mind that you should do everything you can to ensure that you look your very best for the day. Whilst most of the focus should quite rightly be on your dress, be careful to ensure that your jewellery and/or headpiece is not overlooked.

Many brides to be, will decide their look based around a particular theme e.g. ‘Fifties’ or ‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ etc. It is understandable that it can take a long time to settle on a particular theme as there may well be several changes of heart involved before a style is decided. Your choice of wedding accessories are what will accentuate your particular theme and you should spend as much time as you can to make sure that each element of your wedding outfit sits well together.

Vintage has been all the rage but it is also common for brides who prefer instead to let their own personal tastes dictate the theme of the wedding. If you have chosen a wedding outfit and decor which reflect a more contemporary, funky taste then it’s possible that traditional jewellery made from cream or white pearls and crystals will not work so well. Coloured gems, stones, feathers and silk flowers may make for more attractive accessories for this type of wedding look.

Emily Jean

Merry Christmas

December 20, 2011

I would like to wish all my customers a wonderful Christmas and a very happy and peaceful 2012.
A big thanks to all my clients for choosing Emily-Jean Designs during the past year to provide you with a custom made headpiece or jewellery to complete your outfit for the special event you attended.
It was a good year with lots of highlights – it was great to be featured on ‘Nationwide’ and thanks again to all my clients who wore my hats at the Galway Races, and then took the trouble to send me pictures for the programme. There was some great fashion shows during the year, ‘Milano’s Fashion Show’ in aid of Enable Ireland and the ‘Fashion at the G’ event were a great success for all involved. And not forgetting, the royal wedding in April which was a fabulous opportunity for hats and headpieces of all shapes, colours and sizes to shine on the world so brilliantly.

Hand-Made Jewellery Gift Sets

December 10, 2011

Its about now that most of us get down to the serious business of getting our gift shopping done for Christmas. The custom of ‘Kris-Kindle’ is becoming more common in most families and although it is brilliant to reduce the shopping list, it can make choosing the right gift even more challenging. If you would like to buy something unique, custom designed and hand-made in Galway then dropping in to Emily-Jean Designs boutique could be just the thing to do. There are lots of Christmas Gift Sets or individual pieces to suit everyone’s pocket, not to metion gift vouchers. Check out my facebook page for lots more pictures of Christmas Gift Sets available at Emily-Jean Designs.

Christmas Gifts

December 7, 2011

I have been like a busy elf and have been tinkering away in my workshop preparing all my Christmas Gift Box Sets, so if you fancy a little sparkle this year come and have a look at the beautiful handmade jewellery sets now on display in Emily-Jean Designs, Galway.
I will be posting pictures to my facebook page in the coming days.

One of the biggest trends this season is the prominence of sequins. As well as sequined clothes, they are on everything – shoes, bags and of course hats and headpieces.  To add a little extra dazzle to your winter ensembles I urge you all to jump aboard the sequin train. Celebs are wearing them and they are all over the high street collections too.  Now, I admit it can take a certain amount of bravery to wear a sequin dress, but you can be less wary of using them in your accessories.  Sequins are a great way to introduce sparkle to an outfit and at Emily-Jean Designs, I have incorporated the use of sequins into a number of headpieces. The perfect accompaniment to your LBD for the Christmas party season!

Winter Sparklers

November 12, 2011

Silver Ribbon Chain

Things I love about winter include jumpers, cardigans, scarves, coats, boots, hats, mittens and gloves. But don’t let your Jewellery get lost under all that wool – here are some ideas for how to keep your jewellery visible – and keep yourself sparkling – all winter long. Where possible, wear your jewellery outsite your clothing. Big, chunky and long necklaces are great over jumpers and polo necks. Bracelets can be worn over sleeves, and of course brooches come into their own on the lapel of a coat or added to a wolly hat. At Emily-Jean Designs there is a good range of jewellery suitable for this time of year and will ensure you stay sparkling till spring.

Winter Wedding Season

October 27, 2011

Winter Bridal Headpiece in White Faux Fur with Swarovski Crystals & Pearls

Weddings aren’t just spring and summer affairs these days. More and more couples are opting to marry during what used to be the “off season” for nuptials, and why not? The romantic ambience of a snowy landscape, the relative lack of competition for reception venues — there’s lots to love about having a winter wedding. The fashion changes of course, both for the bride and the guests. Accessories change with the season also. When choosing a hat or headpiece for a winter wedding, guests may like to go for something a little heavier with a touch of velvet or faux fur. The bride herself will also most likely choose different accessories which will be more appropriate for the time of year.
